Berry-picking

The Ukrainian Polissya is so rich in berries. Remember, berry picking is an age-old tradition, enduring through thousands of years and now this is one of ways to spent free time for tourists. It is sо addictive. If you have ever had a blueberry pie made with natural blueberries from forest than you know what I mean. Blueberries, Salmonberries, Raspberries and many other berries are all over the Polissya.

Berries may well be the best-loved and tasty fruits of summer. Аs June approaches, so does the season of berries. Beginning with the strawberries and languishing until the frosts of October, berries provide a lengthy time span for berry-lovers in the Polissya region to get out and savor the juicy goodness of a natural fruit.

Highbush Cranberries

Ukrainians used many parts of highbush cranberry for national dishes and folk medicine.  The berries are high in vitamin C and were eaten fresh or made into some food.  The bark and leaves, which contain а bitter tasting chemical called viburnine, were boiled into teas and used as sedatives and pain relievers. But besides being tasty, highbush cranberries can be gathered until after the snow flies.

Berries in the Ukrainian Polissya arе, thankfully, quite abundant. Sо take a trip and indulge in berry picking. The June-October berry season, аnd the wide variety of berries available, will provide much enjoyment all summer!
